CertainTeed Gysum Removal and Reclamation

In January of 2020, CertainTeed Gypsum (formerly Celotex) made the difficult decision to stop production of drywall products at its Cody, WY plant with all gypsum board-related operations coming to an end in May 2020. Market challenges and decline over time in the northwest, coupled with low plant capacity, had made it difficult to sustain the plant further.

As part of the procedure to decommission the site, and to fully comply with the State’s Solid Waste Permit regulations, CertainTeed is required to remove the remnant gypsum board-based material from the plant site, currently stored on our campus as a waste pile. The removal of this material will eliminate the visual impact of the waste pile, which is currently visible from Cody city limits.
