Developer's Handbook

Builders, Contractors, Engineers, Architects and Developers:

We are pleased that you have chosen to construct your personal or commercial project in Cody. We welcome you!

While we are happy to work with you, it is essential to have guidelines and standards to keep the quality of building at a level we all want for our city. Another important aspect is keeping the process of reviewing and approving construction and development projects as expedient as possible while maintaining the integrity of our codes.

Enclosed you will find a Development Manual which should serve as your guide through the process necessary to complete your project in an efficient, timely fashion. There are also other guidelines and forms enclosed. Please keep in mind that, while there are many documents in this handbook, depending on your situation, you may need only one or two of them.

We encourage you to schedule an initial visit with our city planner to determine your specific plan and needs. Generally, there is a process dealing with our Planning, Zoning and Adjustment Board and a process for obtaining a building permit. Often you will need to work through both of these in order to complete your project. So, it is best to coordinate efforts whenever possible. We look forward to working with you as you move through any development review you may submit. Please be aware that time schedules are individual with each project.

At the end of your project please contact your city council member to give him/her feedback on your experience. Cody is divided into three wards. Current council members for Ward 1 (east Cody) are Jona Vanata and Charles Cloud. Current council members for Ward 2 (central Cody) are Sam Krone and Jerry Fritz. Current council members for Ward 3 (west Cody) are Stan Wolz and Steve Miller. I, as Mayor, am also happy to visit with you.

Once again, we are pleased that you are doing business in Cody, and stand ready to help at any time along the way.

Please do not hesitate to contact any of the following City of Cody representatives if you have questions or concerns. To reach any of these representatives by telephone, call 307-527-7511 or click on our names to contact us by email.
