The City of Cody serves as the primary utility supplier to Cody businesses and residents. We provide and bill for electricity, sanitation (solid waste) collection, treated water, wastewater (sewer) collection and in some areas of town raw or irrigation water. We strive to provide cost effective utilities that meet the community's needs.

Utility bills are generated and mailed monthly, with one-fourth of our customers billed each week. Meter readers physically inspect and read each water and electric meter every month, with the exception of those that use a radio-read system that can be read from a distance through radio frequency technology. Electrical, water and wastewater utilities have a base monthly fee in addition to charges for use.

Electricity: Cody is one of seven Wyoming municipalities that own their own electrical distribution system. We employ a well-trained and experienced staff who ensures minimal system disruptions. The City's electrical service extends to residential and commercial users. Each meter is read and billed monthly based on usage.

Solid Waste: Also called sanitation, this service offers residents a means to dispose of household waste. The City's Solid Waste and Recycling Division owns and maintains dumpsters and trucks that haul all of the household and business garbage to the Park County landfill. Your utility bill outlines the amount it costs to collect your monthly household waste as well as the amount charged by Park County for disposal at their landfill. The collection cost is based on the number of times per week your container is emptied plus the number of containers you use. The City also operates a Recycling Center at 602 15th Street where material including paper, newspapers, aluminum cans and cardboard can be donated.

Water: The City purchases treated water from the Shoshone Municipal Water Treatment Plant and distributes it to Cody customers through a piping system throughout the community. Members of the Water Department test the treated water at various locations each month to ensure a constant supply of safe, quality water. Every home and business has a water meter that registers the amount of monthly use, for which our customers are billed. You are also billed a fee charged by the Shoshone Municipal Treatment Plant (SMP fee on your bill) and a base fee to provide the water service to your home or business.

Wastewater: Cody operates a wastewater collection system from nearly every home and business in the City limits. The wastewater is gravity fed to a treatment plant with lagoons where it is cleaned through aeration and tested prior to release. Your wastewater bill is based on the amount of water used each month in addition to the base fee.

Raw Water: You live in a unique community where an irrigation water system was created to allow residents and some businesses to water yards with less expensive untreated water. This system does not extend throughout the community, so in many residential areas there is a discounted rate for treated water during the summer months to allow for irrigation use. Cody's raw water system is not metered, so customers pay a flat rate based on the size of their raw water tap. The City does encourage water conservation in an effort to preserve the life of the pumping system as well as the nation's water supply.
