The Water and Wastewater Division is a component of the City’s Public Works Department. The Water and Wastewater Division oversees the operation and maintenance of treated water distribution, raw water distribution and the collection and treatment of wastewater within Cody’s municipal bounds.

The Treated Water Distribution System includes an estimated 80 miles of water mains, 2 Storage Tanks holding 2.2 million gallons of treated water, 10 Pressure Reducing Valves, 587 Hydrants and 625 Valves. The entire system is monitored by a computerized Telemetry (SCADA) System.

The Raw Water Distribution System is unique for most municipalities. It includes 36 miles of untreated water mains and 840 thousand gallons of untreated stored water. The untreated water is distributed to many parts of the community for yard irrigation. The system typically operates from May to October and the water is provided without metering for an annual fee to community members. Citizens that do not have access to raw water may sign up for the City’s Irrigation Watering Policy which allows them to use metered treated water at a reduced rate for irrigation purposes during the summer months.

Cody’s Wastewater Collection and Treatment System is comprised of nearly 78 miles of sewer pipeline mains, 1176 manholes and five lift stations serving low lying areas. Once collected, wastewater is treated through an aerated lagoon treatment facility. The treatment plant’s primary and secondary ponds each hold 25 million gallons of wastewater. The ponds are twelve feet deep and are mechanically air induced. The City discharges anywhere from nine hundred thousand to one-and-a-half million gallons per day.
