Building permits are required when:-

° Any structure or building regulated by the adopted codes are erected, constructed, enlarged, altered, repaired, moved, improved, removed, converted or demolished.

° Separate permits are required for Electrical, Plumbing and HVAC.

Contractors Licensing
Contractors who are working within city limits must obtain a Contractors' License granted through the City Contractors' Board.  For an application to apply for a Contractors' License, please click the link below for an application and additional information.

City of Cody – City Limits Climatic & Geographic Design Criteria

Work exempt from permits:

° One story detached accessory buildings used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses and similar uses, provided the floor area does not exceed 120 square feet and the structure is placed in accordance with the required zoning regulations.
° Painting, papering and similar finish work.
° Decks, platforms, walks, driveways not more than 30 inches above grade and not over any basement or story below. (Decks with supporting walls and roofs do require permits)
° Window awnings supported by an exterior wall (residential construction only).
